Cedar Chest Lock

How do you pick a cedar chest lock?

I have no idea how this chest got locked as we have never had a key for it. Also once it is unlocked how do you disable the lock?

this is likely a simple lever lock. Buy a key blank and "smoke" the bitting end in a candle flame to get a film of carbon. Carefully insert the key and turn (probably CCW/left) to mark the wards on the film. Using a small round or triangular file, remove metal where carbon was removed. Repeat smoking and cutting until you have a working key.
You could also try using a thin film of wax instead of carbon. Carbon wont gunk up the lock, but if you get wax in the lock, it might. Once the chest is open, you can remove the screws holding it in, but that will decrease the value of the chest.
If you just want to pick it open, watch a YouTube video of picking handcuffs with a paperclip. Use a coathanger or large paperclip for this lock. Without a working key, you wont accidentally relock it.

almost 90% of the chest locks will have warded lever lock. and this can be opened using a simple coathanger wire. if you need it quickly locksmith is the better idea. help any way try first with the wire.

what I usually do for most of those is use a standard, yet durable, hook pick and a "T" shaped tip on my tension wrench. First, using the wrench, find the tension direction. Next, using the hook pick, find the "raking point". Finally, force the lock open by raking the pick up and down until the lock clicks open.
